About Us

Sonderful Creations is the result of a 50 something year old woman trying to answer the basic question of “What do I want to be when I grow up?” Hi, my name is Teri Jenks and that woman was me. I was transitioning away from stay at home grandma as the littles were not so little anymore. I had never had a “career”, had just completed my bachelor’s degree in general studies, and had absolutely no desire to entire the corporate world. What I did have was a new IPad and a renewed love of drawing and painting. So I started drawing and doodling and just having fun.

As a teen in the 80’s I had a sticker collection. I bought most of them from Spencer’s Gifts in the mall. My collection was kept in a book with wax covered pages, so that you could move the stickers around. I have always loved stickers, but felt like I had outgrown them. Cue the resurgence of stickers, this time with adults in mind. Vinyl Stickers with bright colorful designs that don’t fade in the sun and are fairly easy to remove. So I decided to use my drawings to make stickers that would maybe resonate with someone else.

Now, about the name. Sonderful is an extension of the word sonder, first appearing in the book titled Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows by John Koenig in 2012. Sonder is defined by Koenig as “The Awareness That Everyone Has a Story.” Dictionary.com defines it as “the feeling one has on realizing that every other individual one sees has a life as full and real as one’s own, in which they are the central character and others, including oneself, have secondary or insignificant roles.” So for me, sonderful is about being purposeful in seeing everyone I meet as a main character and not an extra in my life’s story.
